Had a pretty successful time yesterday getting some more parts installed on the FR-S. If you do not know what the twins look like with the front body parts removed, it's a lot like this...

Kinja'd!!!

I got my oil cooler installed (it's mounted front and center in the picture) and the initial results are quite good. I used to be able to push the oil temps comfortably into the mid 100s (Celsius), but now it seems to hit a wall at around 85 and I can't seem to make it go much higher on the street (while moving).

I also installed a lighter front bumper beam (the yellow/gold piece across the front) which should save me back most of the weight gained in adding the cooler. Beatrush also claims it increases chassis rigidity, but the part it replaced felt pretty solid, so not sure if I quite believe that.

Speaking of weight reduction, I found out that the windshield washer reservoir actually contains about 1.5 GALLONS of fluid. It's that gigantic reservoir under the drivers side headlight in the picture up top. I drained it (I never use it) so that should give me an additional 10-12 lbs of weight savings.

Finally I installed a fairly rudimentary strut tower bar. Usually I do not buy into these things, but they had some pretty convincing data that showed a significant reduction in chassis deflection under hard cornering, and blind tests done by some skeptical drivers at autocross events.

Now I've just got to do a bit of brake work, install my catch can, and get my tires mounted to be ready for the start of the track season next weekend :)

I can see how the reinforcement will add to stiffening. Instead of bolting to the front of the frame horns, it ties the two together laterally.

Just don't hit anything.

I wonder if the big fluid reservoire is to offset some weight on the other side of the chassis. I know the washer reservoire in my X1/9 is unusually big for that reason.

I would buy that had it been on the other side, but the driver's side? And if that is the case, I've already installed a lightweight battery that saved me 25 lbs on the passenger side.

Maybe that was the intent for RHD cars though, they would have battery and washer bottle on the same side.

That could be it then, although the only way to really find out would be to get it on a weigh-bridge.

Are the ancilliaries on one side of the engine? A/C, alternator, p/s pump etc.

A/C on drivers side, alternator on passenger side, no PS pump. The heavy bits of the exhaust are on the passenger side as is the gas tank (but I think that may switch sides based on which side gets the driver)
